Is it worth the time and effort to change the bearings on twenty year old 3 hp Baldor motors? Replacement motors are around $1000 and a set of replacement bearings cost around $20. The motors are currently installed on a plant that I am rebuilding and will put into service so it would be ideal to service them now. When operational, the motors worked fine. I just thought new bearings would extend their longevity. if Is worth it, what bearing type is best, unshielded, shielded, or sealed?

It's not hard to replace the bearings. Ideally you would do it with a press, but I've done it with hand tools and a piece of aluminum C channel. I keep meaning to get a 12 ton hydraulic press from Harbor Freight, which is only $170, but they're always out.
