I went to WalMart with my daughter last week.
We wanted only a few items and she suggested a basket instead of a cart.
We were greeted by a friendly-enough employee. We asked her "where are the baskets please?" to which she gestured toward some boxes of beer and wine.
I said there were no baskets there. She said maybe there were some at the checkouts. We walked to each one and saw no baskets. There were, however, plenty of employees doing nothing. We walked down to the last checkout and, finding no baskets to use to shop, headed back to the greeter.
I explained to her that it was kind of a drag to walk all the way down to the last checkout looking for baskets, finding none available, while passing 5 or 7 employees standing around talking. Why, I asked, don't you send some of the employees out to round up some baskets to keep by the entrance for the shoppers to use???
She got flustered and started in with a story about 'well, we don't have enough baskets'. I said "then let me make a suggestion. Buy more baskets.". Then she started making another excuse and getting exasperated with me.
Of course it did no good because I was peeved at this point so I just walked away and we began shopping with a cart.
This was a great example for me of how not to handle a customer request/complaint. I can and will be better than Walmart in customer service.
