So I have a couple selfserve pumps that I am tired of dumping money into would like to replace them. I run a lot of cat pumps but have had a lot of cat problems over the years, not that cat is a bad pump, they are just old pumps. My last pump was an arimitsu which I like but as far as I am concerned they have priced themselves right out of the market, so arimitsu is out.

I like the price of giant, and general pumps. Are these pumps any good or are there others I should be looking at?

General will not hold up without lots of maintenance. They used to be pretty good, now not so much.

Some Giant models are decent and some are absolute crap, like the 318A. The P55W used to be pretty good, but they aren't cheap.

I'm not a fan of Hypro - when I worked for a distributor we added the 2410 to our line, and one of the biggest problems I saw with them was that if they got wet the brass retainers would fuse into the crankcase. There were some I couldn't get out even by destroying them.

I'd go Cat or Arimitsu.

I know you said arimitsu were pricey, and I agree, but as my hypro's die I've been replacing them with Arimitsu. First one I put in was 2yrs ago, have had no issues with it.

SW Indiana melon fields.
I checked Kleen-Rite for pricing.

Cat 310 - $635.99

Arimitsu 313 - $587.50
(Includes pulley and rails for conversion)

Cat 5CP2120 - $565.00

I don't see where Arimitsu has priced themselves out of the market. The Cat 310 is a good pump, but almost $50 more than a 313. The 5CP Cat is $22.50 less, but IMO it is not that good of a pump.

I tried a 313 Arimitsu. I had a lot of problems with valves deteriorating in it. I probably ran too much pressure for that pump. I would try a 516 if going with Arimitsu. As I posted before, Hypro 2410 have been very good pumps for me. 1500 psi and several are over 10 years old.

We’ve used Cat 310 pumps for well over 30 years with very few problems, we’ve never had a head washout, which seems to be the biggest compliant. We pressure feed the pump with reduced city water pressure, car wash equipment manufactures don’t like this system because it cost more to build than a gravity tank system. When you’re building equipment it’s all about cost, build it as cheaply as possible so you can sell it. If you pressure feed the water to the pump your chances of head wash are just about zero.

The 313 Arimitsu is too small of a pump for most car wash applications. The Arimitsu pump you want to use is the 516, you can get more pressure out of the 516, 2500 psi, the 313 will only go up to 1200 psi.

For about $70 more you can order a Cat 5CP or 310 with stainless sleeves in the head, so it won't ever erode there.

The Arimitsu 313 is rated to 1500 PSI max.
