Old GinSan Timer with Fragromatics

I am attempting to refurbish some old Fragromatics auto fragrance that were previously inoperable. After disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the unit, it only turns on when first powered up. I have verified that 24V are being supplied to the coin acceptor from the timer and returning to the timer, but triggering the coin acceptor does nothing. If I turn the machine off and then turn it on, it runs for the time set on the timer. Is the timer faulty or do I have something wired incorrectly?

I think you have it wired where there is a constant signal to the coin signal input of the timer. Since you have it set for one coin to start, when you power it off, you are killing that signal and powering it back on starts the timer. Usually if a timer is bad, it either won’t start or it won’t cut off. Set it to more than one coin to start and see what happens when you power it off and back on.

So, your cable coming from your timer down to your coin acceptor should have one wire hooked to 1 on the timer, which goes to common on the cherry switch and one wire hooked to 4 on the timer, which goes to NO (normally open) on the cherry switch. Once you know that is correct, flip the switch on and take a volt meter turned on to measure ac voltage and check between terminals 4 & 3 on the timer to see if you are reading voltage. With everything wired correctly and the metal wire on the cherry switch not stuck in the down position, you shouldn't read any voltage. If you are, take the wire off of 4 on the timer and check for voltage between 4 & 3 again. If you still read voltage, bad timer, if not, shorted cable or bad cherry switch.

Is it possible to find out what is NO/NC and Common on a Cherry switch?

Common is the terminal closest to the face plate. NO is the middle terminal.

That timer is at least 25 years old, toss it.
