The chances that you will get any are pretty slim. Of course, there are none in circulation to begin with. When some do get in circulation it is most likely because some kid raided his dad's collection and they are quicly plucked. Electronic coin acceptors will reject them unless you program them as an accepted coin. I do, and still hardly ever get one, maybe one every few months, across four washes. Usually, when there is a silver quarter in the mix, it will stand out in color and will also sound different. All that being said, don't bother, you ain't gonna find any.

I disagree, I get quite a few of them!! You will hear them if you separate them yourself, and I use Td banks penny machine they will spit them out. I wait until I have about 100 of them or when silver is up I will cash them in. Last time was about $1,000 of extra cash. I find that when I do get them there is usually a few of them. I agree its because someone cleaned out a change jar, but not my concern where they came from!!

What type of acceptors are you using?
My Slugbuster II coin acceptors will take them. I get one every once and awhile, I can hear them when they go through the coin counter and I’ll pull them out if I hear them. I never sort through them looking for silver quarters, who’s got that much time. The girls at my bank tell me that a couple of people come in and will buy 10 rolls at a time looking for silver quarters.

I've gotten about a half dozen over the last 20 years, identified primarily by sound. I am paying attention (looking for them) when I sort & count, but do not have a separate task to find them.
That works out to about, lets see... 10 or 20 bucks. Not worth it to spend any specific time looking for them IMO.
On a related & personal note my dad worked retail in the 60s and I remember him telling customers how much change they had in their pocket by the sound. Unless it was more than a couple bucks he was usually right - to a 5 year old boy that was like super powers

I got one silver certificate $5 bill. I find about two silver quarters a month by sound when counting. When I fine one, chances are there are one or two more in there also.
I've also started saving the "big head" tens and twenties that aren't colored. Those were only out a couple of years, so I'm guessing they will be worth something one of these days. I also save the old small head fives that come through if they are in good shape.

IDX MA800's I have never programmed the acceptors for them, but they all do accept them. I dont get a lot of them, but when I get them there is usually a few of them. I seperate my tokens by hand so I hear them in the trays or going thru the counter. I f I miss them the TD Bank change machine spits them out.
