Our company just completed our first year of used car sales and we are on track to sell between 13 and 15 cars this year.

The used car business is real work but it can be fun. If you're into cars at all, it can be exciting to find, fix and sell used cars for profit and I would recommend this as an added profit center at the carwash.

We chose Volvos as a specialty. This is because no one in the immediate area specializes in them, they are safe and reliable and they hold up well over 100-150k miles which is the range we buy/sell in currently.

While we aren't setting the world on fire selling used Volvos, it has given company profits a boost and has provided extra revenue when needed most throughout the year.

Do you offer some add on services such as car washes/detailing for a period of time after the sale? A lot of dealerships run your car through an automatic with water and little soap, you could offer a nice package to counter it.

I considered doing the same thing, but the requirements and their costs would make it very difficult to turn a profit at all.

Any losers in the bunch, or did you turn a profit on all of them?
The was a Ford Ranger 4x4 I sold early on. Kid beat on it and broke a U joint. I felt bad and helped out w/tow/fix etc. Broke even on it.

We send all used car customers a thank you note including a few tokenotes for the deluxe automatic wash. All cars are detailed/waxed etc before sold.
