ParaPlate BR5-2 HELP

I've got a close friend of mine that I am helping out. The pipe leading to one of his Bays blew apart and after fixing that I found the line had way too much pressure on it.
It has a Paraplate BR5-2 pressure regulator valve on it and after taking it apart found out the washers were rusted together and some of them in pieces. There was another spare valve there that he had picked up from a car wash being tore down. I put that valve on and the pressure is around 2000 psi , how do you adjust the pressure with these valves? It is rated at 750-2000 psi but I don't see anyway of setting the pressure on it, any help would be appreciated.

You adjust the pressure by turning the gold nut on top that threads into the stainless body. It is just under the elbow. With the pump running, hold onto the body with a wrench and then use another to adjust the pressure by turning the brass threaded nut.

To tell the truth I had looked at that and wondered if that would adj it or not, right now it is tightened all the way down. I didn't want to fool with it, was afraid that vibration would cause it to back out even more. Thanks-a-a lot, at least I can go down there tomorrow and act like I know what I am doing.

No problem. In that case, go ahead and loosen the nut before you turn it on so that it doesn't turn on again at 2k pressure.

You'll want to back it off - it probably came off a pump that was failing and someone cranked it all the way down trying to increase the pressure. Normal self-serve bay pressure is 1000-1200 PSI. Adjust it with the trigger pulled, and if the gauge stops climbing as you tighten it, adjust it back down until it's set just below the peak pressure it will adjust to.

Turn the brass nut on top of the BR5-2 pressure regulator counter clockwise to lower the pressure. I run my pumps at around 1400 psi, my customers love the higher pressure.

Sure glad I found this site, all of you have been a great help. I've been a automotive mechanic for over 50 years but I find myself lost at the car wash. My friend that owns it is not able to do any of the maint. himself and has to hire all of it out. He wants to sell the place to me but coming up with the down payment is a problem. Plus I don't know if I want all the additional headaches.

Where is the wash located? I know someone who says he can get anyone financed on a car wash.
