Pat Crowe, while a good guy, that I actually chat with from time to time, had a bit of an issue playing nice, and when I told him to knock it off one time, he told me "F U" which I don't take to well, and I banned him. If you want his email let me know.
Bill, I won't be needing his email, thanks for the offer. I'm glad you keep the forum's best interest in mind. A few years back I took a break from the forum, the atmosphere wasn't for me. Oh, I admit I lurked from time to time, and searched for valuable help and information. The forum's atmosphere seems much better now & still full of carwash wisdom and helpful people. Thanks!

He riled many folks up and seldom helped anyone. He is a rude, sarcastic, condescending blowhard, nothing but a troublemaker and a bully. I can't imagine having been a student of his. I imagine he was one of those teachers that enjoyed humiliating a student in front of the class. We all had one of those. People like him drag otherwise good discussions down to his level and chase away potential new posters. He was the black eye (I actually have a more appropriate body part to describe him) of the forum and it's a better place without him...good riddance.

It always seemed to me that if someone (myself included a number of times) joined a discussion who he didn't feel was on his intellectual level, he'd simply ignore their comments. On the other hand, if I offered up a reply to him that he couldn't argue with validity, he'd just ignore that too.
I remember the video of an interview of him where he expressed surprise at how "common" people managed to write letters to him above a particular level of eloquence.

Pat is a real nice guy in person. Pat has made some good points in the past. And he does think outside the box from a promotional standpoint. Pat did try to be helpful, but I think he was removed from the daily operational standpoint of running a carwash so his input was limited there.
As I mentioned in another thread five years ago Pat insisted that valuations were too high and many of us discounted his opinion. I'm not saying a wash is worth only 2.5X-3X gross under all circumstances , but I bet there are people now that have 5X,6X, or 7X gross in a carwash that wished they listened more to his input.
However, it seems that most of his conversations in the latter years were political in nature and did irk many here, including me. And yes, he could be very condescending in his posts. I would be curious as to his current position on the politics, but I doubt he has changed his opinion on Obama. I mean after all- he was educated at Harvard.....

Ahh, jeez, I dont want to do this, but...
cfcw, I must respectfully disagree. wholeheartedly. Separating in-person from written communication is bogus - it is the same person. There are words for people like that, and they aint complimentary.
The valuation issue - Nobody ever disagreed that paying 2-3x was better. Problem is it was not realistic in most cases, and in fact I would argue that 2-3x was out of line with business economics and he was simply lucky that he got into the SS business when he did.
I always thought of PC's 2-3x this way: "When I bought gasoline I only paid $.89/gal, its only worth $.89 therefore YOU should only pay $.89 or you're stupid!" Yeah OK thanks for that. Shall I hold out and enjoy riding my bicycle, or should I pay $4/gal?
PC is the only person I ever put on any type of ignore list.

I feel kind kind of like Paul above, but this is one of my pet peeves; Going to college anywhere and getting educated are not the same thing. I got my engineering degree from UCLA ('57) when it was jokingly called "the little red schoolhouse by the sea"! And it wasn't because the buildings were built out of red brick!! Getting a degree from college all too often only means that you spent 4-6 years going to school; getting "educated" was not part of the program! The degree was just so you could get through the first private or corporate door to a job interview.
A couple of well known people who left college to start doing what they loved are Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Steve Jobs (Apple) who, in my opinion, are very well educated. Many of the people on this forum are very well educated even though many do not have degrees. The "School of Hard Knocks" is real education!!!
