Does anyone know if there are any specific regulations/laws on disposing of pit mud? Is it ok to dispose of it in the dumpster?

Don't fill it too full...the garbage truck won't be able to lift it and you will have to shovel it back out. Not to mention the jig will be up with what you're doing.

According to EPA regulations, you can't just transfer the pit mud straight to the dumpster. It has to be dried on a hard surface with any liquid allowed to run into a drain, then it can be put in a landfill.

I worked as environmental program manager in Florida and chief of environmental planning for Washington Council of Governments.

I can assure you the requirements for disposal of pit slurry can vary by county and state.

The easiest way to find out what is required is to contact the state-approved local EPA agency or the state EPA.
