It seems every 4-6 months I have to replace the igniter cord in my older RayPak boiler. Anybody else have this issue? Anybody find a better solution? That silicone rubber cable just ain't cutting it.
Possibly…the tube bundle is clogged with soot. This causes excessive heat in the combustion chamber eventually resulting in flame roll-out, damaged refractory brick, warped burner tray attachment framework, and cooked spark ignition cable.
Right, it's definitely not normal. I've seen those things 30 years old with the original cable in them. It's easier than it might look like to pull the burner assembly out and clean the tips.
