Rebuilding vs. Replacing CAT Pump

Hello - I have an old CAT pump that needs to be rebuilt, and I suspect the head may be washed out. Would it make more sense to rebuild it or purchase a new one? I understand that CAT offers a free rebuild—could you clarify what’s included and if there are any costs involved (e.g., seals and other components)?

Given the potential expenses, I have a feeling that buying a new pump might be the better option. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks!

What model Cat pump do you have?

Thank you!

It looks like it's right on the borderline with shipping and possibly other charges, so I might end up saving a few hundred dollars. I assume a new pump would come with seals and valves included. I’m leaning toward buying a new one. Did I get this right?

We were trying to rebuild pumps, but anything more than a seal kit or valves and we now replace with a new one. It's not worth it for us time wise and parts are expensive. The pumps last 15-20 years, a lot of the ones we are replacing have served a good, long life. If the only thing wrong with your pump is washout on the head, it maybe worth getting it replaced by cat. You would be out shipping to them (they cover shipping back to you), a seal kit, and maybe valves if you can't reuse/rebuild your current valves. They will give you an rma and instructions on how to do it, ship them a bare head, and the ship you back a bare head. If you don't have a spare head or pump, that bay will be down for that amount of time. Might be worth it time-wise buying a new pump and send this head in as a rebuilt spare on the shelf.
