Earl,

There is a supplier (Hagemeyer) here in town that specializes in safety. They set us up with mask that has replaceable cartridges & made sure we had the cartridges that met safety specifications for potentially dangerous fumes. I hope this helps ... I wish I could be more specific & detailed other than they were very fussy about how sealed the mask fit against a person's face.

Every once in awhile someone will be using their own unknown ??? spray in a self service bay for pre-treating their boat before washing. I remember being downwind of those sprays more than once ... & feeling an awful burning sensation when I accidentally breathed some in. So there can be more to it sometimes ... because we do not always have the luxury of putting on the protection first!

Earl, There are many types of respirators for many different applications. Here’s a video series that might be of some interest. https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/respiratoryprotection/training_videos.html#video
Here is a specific video from Randy's link that is probably the most pertinent to what Earl asked.

The MSDS sheets on whatever has something to do with the needed selection of the type of filters etc.
