We are constantly being reminded that energy can be saved by getting rid of existing lighting fixtures and installing CFLs or LEDs. (The CFLs I see may use less energy, but do not light up anything very well!!) Our vendor manufacturer has responded by providing the option of installing LED lights in all the new vendors that we buy. ShurVend always purchases the LED option to save energy for our customers even though they cost more. Another reason to use LEDs in the vendor is the interference with the Sensit system that can be caused by using the older florescent fixtures.
We have had some interest in retrofitting the older vendors that have florescent fixtures to the newer LED system. The LED lighting fixtures provided by AMS are plugged into and powered by the 34 vdc MDB systems that power the bill validator, coin changer, and the credit card reader. If you have a machine with one of the early Sensit II systems (a 2 line display) or have upgraded your Sensit I system to a Sensit II, you can easily upgrade to the new LED fixtures. The MDB system on the older Sensit I vendors (a one line display) is not robust enough to support the LED lights so retrofitting is NOT available.
LEDs are not cheap to buy, but they do save on energy costs and they do project a much brighter light onto the vending products inside of the vendor. They are easy to install because they plug into the MDB system of the vendor. The cost of a dual LED light kit for the earlier Sensit II vendors is $250 plus some shipping.
I understand Lowe’s and Home Depot have LED fixtures of very similar sizes that are powered by 120 vac and might be retrofitted into the vendor. You will also have to find a way to provide 120 vac from the vendor to the LEDs. My information says there may be fewer actual LEDs on some of these fixtures. The dual AMS LED light system has the following specs: the 24” LED fixture has 6 LED lights and the 42” fixture has 10 LED lights.
