#!/$%# Rowe

I finally got the kits to upgrade the BC 1400 changers for the new $5's. The installation instructions warn that this E-PROM will need a new adapter board. The machine shutdown with the error message "CK WRONG ADAPTER" Why would they send only part of what it takes to make the conversion? I put it back together until I get time to fix it right.
Has anyone else run into this? Never another Rowe!!

I feel the same way.The customers haven't been very understanding anymore, I was told my 5 rowe updates were just shipped with some new adapter. I guess it is different than the last adapter. Their new kit that replaces the stacker and validator for about $700 with a new computer and a Mars, Is looking better each day,
John

Fyi I sold the guts of my bc-2800 for nearly enough to pay for the Mars changeover. Don't offer to pay the shipping though. That stuff is heavy!

After reading the instructions again, I see what I was missing. If you are using the "FAST PAY" system the circuit board is ready to plug in as is. If you are using the "DOUBLE DUMP" you have to put the right EPROM on the circuit board that they send you. Then you take the "FAST PAY" sticker off of the circuit board and put on the "DOUBLE DUMP". You throw away the old circuit board no matter which system you use.
The instructions used the term circuit board on one page and called it an Eprom Adapter on the next page. That was clear as mud.

Thanks for your replies.

Got the upgrades in the mail late yesterday afternoon and put them in today. Had a bit of trouble getting the chips to fit - the fast pay were already installed but my older sytems were double pay so I had to replace that chip. They didn't "fit" so you have to make them work - it's a bit hard when you have tri-focals trying to get them into the right holes. I know I'll hear from Pat H. about being too old to do this stuff, but I do want to thank Suncoast Changer's and especially Scott for their great customer service during this whole process. It's really nice to deal with a company that is honest & upfront with the customer on what to expect and it's really appreciated.

Yes, you are too old, but it makes me feel good to see that your still plugging along. I hope when I get to be your age I'm still takin care of business as well as you.

I went to the ica meeting and talked to a Rowe rep which said that Rowe messed up the last update and cost the company a lot of money fixing the problem. That was the reason for this delay.

I have some pictures of the rep. changing out the chip. Seems pretty easy but I have not done it yet. http://cwguy.com/?p=2520

Rowe did have the official Rowe to MEI conversion kit at the show. It replaced the ccc, power supply and the acceptor. I believe the cost was about $800? Funny that most of the Rowe changers on the floor had Mars bill acceptors.

Suprisingly my 2 BC 1400's upgraded easily. But what about the MEI validator conversion? Is Rowe's setup designed well? I understand Capital Vending of Maryland offers a set up, but my experience dealing with thoes kids was frustrating, NEVER a return call after about 8 attempts of trying to find out when transports would be shipped when promised 2 weeks ago!:

I tried to install my new $5 bill upgrade in my ccc. What a mess! After I replaced the chip, my stacker would run continuously and my hoppers were continuously cycling. I called my distributor and he said that he has had about 6 cases like this and he has sent out over 200 chips. He advised me that Rowe was aware of the problem and working on getting a fix.

I am not really sure about the quality of the rowe upgrade. It is an official rowe product and the ccc and power supply both look just like the old version but they are not shipping them yet (as of the ica show). I also can not decide if investing around $1600 for my rowe changers is a good idea.
