My post in June of this year announced the new AMS S-3 control system that was created for the vendors we use. There were some additional features added for operations and the Sensit system was designed to be more sensitive to dropped products. We applaud the effort expended to create the new system, but real world experiences since its introduction leads me to believe the company moved a little too fast into this new system without doing the necessary “debugging”. All the older S-1 and S-2 systems were designated obsolete before the AMS staff and the rest of us had a good understanding of how the new S-3 system worked with the other vendor systems.

As I posted below the S-3 systems are especially sensitive to electronic noise created by the florescent tubes and ballasts that were installed in the older vendors. All the tubes light up and look perfectly normal, but something is creating interference. Since there is no way to measure this interference, finding the ballast and/or florescent light that causes the shut-down of some sensit systems is a frustrating process of elimination. Indeed, we had two refurbished vendors with new S-3 boards installed in them that worked perfectly with the vendor door open; as soon as the door was closed the sensit system shut down. In both cases we had to replace the whole lighting system with a new one to get it working. Recently we found that the Edge credit card system can interfere with the S-3 control board and shut the vendor down. We have solved this problem and now know how to install the Edge system to work correctly.

The S-3 system has some great additional features and benefits, but it has to be used with LED lights and other electronic systems have to be installed a certain way for everything to work correctly for the operator. One might look at the S-3 system as a beautiful rose, but every rose has its “thorns”.

ShurVend's experience has forced us to adjust to the new system by changing the way we configure the vendors so you, as operators, do not have problems out in the real world.
