save money with hydrogen

This is off the subject regarding the car wash industry, but most are interested in saving a buck. Has anyone tried using a hydrogen generator on their car to save fuel, increase horspower, create less emissions? They are reasonbly priced if they accually do what they claim. Save up to 30% on fuel. I would post one of the web sites here, but not sure if im allowed. but anyone can google hydrogen generator and find info on it.

They don't do what they claim. The amount of hydrogen it can generate is negligible. Besides, it takes electricity to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen, and the current draw on the alternator increases fuel consumption. It's impossible to get more hydrogen energy than the energy it takes to get it, otherwise you'd be talking about a perpetual motion machine which can actually create energy.

That's not entirely true in this application. It takes more energy to break the hydrogen oxygen bond found in water than the energy we get in returning the hydrogen oxygen bond as stated. If the application of the hydrogen was used in this way, we would have a net energy loss due to the transfer of energy thru heat, sound, etc. The perpetual motion reality would fit in this application. However, if the free hydrogen we used energy to seperate can be used in a seperate chemical reaction to increase the mechanical energy gained from burning gasoline, we have the potential to see an energy gain. Gasoline engines are highly inefficient, losing a great percentage of its energy through uncomsumed fuel. If hydrogen can be used in this application to extract extra energy thru a more efficient burning of the fuel, than it is plausible. The perpetual motion reality doesn't apply in this instance because of the introduction of stored energy in gasoline and the potential of a secondary substance increasing the extraction of the stored energy.

This does not mean that this hydrogen generator works however. Without personally knowing the energy impact hyrdogen has on gasoline energy output and the resulting energy it takes to break apart water, I can't say it is effective. I'm assuming more people would be using this if it were in fact true. Plus, I think the oxygen would be more effective in increasing fuel energy extraction than the hydrogen.

I beleive the kit that they are selling to add on the car uses or makes "hydrogen peroxide" which is then easily converted down to hydrogen & oxygen molecules without electrolysis as needed with water to make hydrogen gas. I'd have to go back and read the kits.

Either way from what I remember... they add very little in fuel efficency compared to a real hydrogen fuel cell. My understanding is that there are several "big" technologies in the future. However in the short run... we are stuck consuming fossil fuels, increasing shortage of grain, soybeans and corn for "alternative ethonol based fuels" which will drive up food cost and no curbing of emmmissions in CO2 of coal. No new Nuke plants either.

We're stuck. We need to open up the North slope, Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico soon. Our economy is severly being impacted. And as China grows, based on our consumation and need for cheaper products, and India's ability to offer cheaper, more educated professionals they are growing a demand for a smaller supply of oil!

Those web adds are BOGUS. Get a programer, chip, K&N air filter, synthetic oil (Purple Power), Nitrogen in your tires and DON'T SPEED. That will save more gas and cost less than those WEB GIMMICS!

What happens if you get in an accident with a cheap unregulated hydrogen generator? Will it resemble the Hindenburg?

These "cheap unregulated hydrogen generators" barely produce enough hydrogen to power a lighter.
