Selecting Z boom length

We have 15' 5" wide bays want to go with three Z booms per bay. According to Mosmatic's catalog the length should be 5" 1".

How critical is the length? If we found some used ones that are longer couldn't we just arrange them differently that the diagram in their catalog? What would be the disadvantage of going shorter because I found some used ones that are 4' 9"?

Not sure on length issues.... but I do have three booms in my bay.....something I wouldn’t do again. No matter the spacing when you’ve got folks using two booms at once, typically a dry brush with HP soap, the lines get tangled. Not a huge deal, but some customers can’t figure it out so bay is down till i get to wash, if I did it again, I’d have try foam on a coil hose (as I do) coming off a wall boom....this would allow two booms to be spaced farther a part.

Yeah, Maybe. But my thought is they’d be further spaced so less likely. I guess I could visit other washes and see...but at this point I’m not changing things.
