I have a express tunnel that is about 6 months old. We've developed a slick area on the passenger side by the prep gun that sprays our bug goo. Tried o=power washing and scrubbing with a brush. Our Peco rep suggested using an alkaline cleaning product but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions on cutting through this mess that is going to be safe in the tunnel?

Use some rubber matting in the area that you can flip and clean.

You may need to experiment with different types.

Sam's club sells a grease resisitant red anti fatigue mat that's about 3 foot square. Comes in sections that fit together. Has large holes in it and is about 1/2" think. That should work.

If the concrete was polished, muriatic acid will remove a layer and leave it rough and non-slip.

I would go with a process of mechanical scarification. Basically putting little scars, or cuts in the surface. You can rent a concrete saw and just put a little line every inch or so.

I think your best bet would be to do what mac says, and get a concrete saw to etch in some lines for traction.

slippery Concrete in tunnel

Thanks for all the advice. The tunnel had a brush finish so for the most part is not slippery except where the chemicals drip down. Then it is just slippery as snot. I think for the quick fix I will get the mats and next rainy day, if I am not shoveling out the pit, I can etch the concrete.
