I have a soap solenoid for the pre-soak on an automatic on one side it says "IN", does it matter how it goes in? the gentleman from clean right told me it didn't matter how you hooked it up but I think I had the line hooked up wrong it was back flowing into the rinse tank, is this possible I change the lines around and switch the line that was going to the end with the other line and it seems to be better

"IN" on a solenoid is the feed side. The other port should be towards bay.

I would assume so, we use mostly GC on our systems, and when we have intalled incorrectly do have issues. Most solenoids will have an in and out, usually one side will be marked for direction

No, a solenoid does not stop flow in the reverse direction when hooked up correctly, but if it's hooked up backwards it would actually prevent flow the wrong way. You MUST have a solenoid plumbed correctly to stop any pressure flow in the direction it's supposed to go.

Your problem with backflow into a tank is a check valve.
