softner reject sent to RO reject tank?

I've been wondering for a while now whether some of the waste water from a softener can be reused. I would think that if you used a section of PVC pipe with a hole in the bottom and a large discharge to the side that would drain to the RO reject tank, you could size the hole in the bottom big enough to let the brine water go to drain, but the backwash and settle rinse would overflow the tube and go into your tank.

What issue is more important to you; finding a way to effectively pipe softener reject water or finding a way to reduce your huge water bills?

I'm not being a wise guy. I'm just trying to get you to look at the root cause of why your water bills are so high. Getting to the root cause of something will always have a greater ROI than solving just one piece of a puzzle.

Has the city doubled or tripled rates recently or do you just use a lot of fresh water (by design or circumstance)?
