Spam PMs

A few of you received a spam email from a jessie. Sorry, it appears that he just manually registered and sent them out. I have installed a "hack" that should stop it, but we will see. And he is banned.

There are spam robots that try to register and I have a couple of "hacks" to stop them, but I am told that some of these companies actually hire retards to manually register so the bot can then come back and post. Its a continuous game. Another reason that I'm making the big bucks.

This forum's software has in it the ability to force newly registered users to wait a predetermined number of days before they can post or send PMs. That may help weed out the spammers if they can't do it right away.

That would probably weed out some new members also. I'm sure there are many timid people that finally get up the nerve to jump in and post that may give up if they are shut down as soon as they try. I wouldn't put up any roadblocks.

I agree, some of the discussions get a little spirited and may cause someone who is more timid not to return and post at a later date when they are willing to try now.
How often is the spamming of members a issue? If the spamming is a large enough issue it maybe worth looking into limiting their ability to post.

What happens is that a bot or an idiot, registers just to spam. Being part of this group has nothing to do with it. I have a number of "firewalls" up trying to avoid and prevent them from "breaking in". Sometimes they still get in.

When I first bought my laundromats, it wasn't a week before I got broke into, that was before I could buy an alarm system, so I started building my own and "securing the places". Each break in made me more aware of the possibilities and I "invented" another security device.

LOL "invented" huh? Anything REALLY good? I bet that left more than a few theives scratching their heads. When I worked for a large chemical manufacturer, they had a break in. The smart guys broke into the building next door and tried to put a hole in the wall between the two warehouses. They made one miscalculation...they started to make their hole where the flammable room was! 3ft thick walls of cinder block filled with cement and rebar. It looked like they worked all night long and made it within 6 inches and gave up, empty handed.
I'm thinking of upgrading my security system from a pitbull to two bull mastiffs!

It is really a shame that this country has become so wussified. Yes, you read that right. It is the Oprahazation of America. All it would take to stop spammers is to publically lynch one. Yes, the wonderful ACLU or the UN comittee on human relations would raise holy hell. But one lynching would stop it. Here is a thought that should be pursued. Someone somewhere should be able to track the spammers back to a house or office. All they have to do then is publish where these people are located. I know that I would risk prison time to put just one of these viagra a++holes spammers in someplace very uncomfortable.

AOL helped the e-mail spam problem a lot when they prosecuted someone, got him sent to prison and got all his posessions in a settlement, then gave away a bunch of his stuff to their members. I keep hearing about new laws that will prohibit false e-mail headers, but I don't know if that ever went through. At any rate, the spam-for-profit guys are just moving to forums which aren't illegal for them yet.
