What would cause a stacker to give the timeout error. Last month, I replaced both microswitches, and that helped....but the error is back. Would the next step be to replace the Stacker Cam Assembly?

Rudy,
There are a number of things that will cause you to get a “Stacker Time Out Error” Is this stacker used in a Changer or ACW? You could have bad controller or the harness could be bad. Have tried running the machine for few days with stacker Bypass plug installed to check that it is actually the Stacker that’s causing the problem and not something else. It could be the micro-switches are out of adjustment or the cam is worn to the point that it is not hitting the switch at the right time. How old is this Stacker? It might be time to just replace it and move on.

Hi Randy. It's in a 20 year old RNS. It happened over the weekend. I had the attendant remove the stacker and install the bypass plug. It appeared all ran OK. Yesterday, I removed the plug and reinstalled the stacker. It hasn't been busy, but it appears to be OK. Makes me maybe suspect a harness issue maybe....because my people audit the changer every morning and empty the stacker. The cam doesn't have any worn areas. The stacker (I think from memory) is an 2004 model. I don't remember there being any "adjustment" on the microswitches?????

Do you have another machine that you can put this stacker into? When the Stacker runs listen to the motor, it should be smooth, not noisy. If it’s making a lot of noise it not worth fixing. After it cycles try pushing up on the pusher plate that pushes the bills into the stacker, if you can push it up a little check the spring on the side of the Stacker, if it’s not broken the Stacker is probably worn out if you can push up on the pusher plate. We don’t fix them anymore because they are only about $225 -$230 new, by the time you get parts and labor into a used stacker your almost over half the cost of a new one.

I finally found the motor turning, but the phenolic cam was not. Must be a busted gearbox. Threw in a spare I had, and all is well.....
