Hello .
Does anyone have experience in truck wash bays that service 5 ton trucks and semis without trailers in city’s of high truck volume ?
I never see them and was wondering if there is large down falls to them such as size and equipment . A 5 ton truck or semi tractor could typically be 35feet long . I thought 20feet extra would be comfortable to manoeuvre around the truck making the bay 55 feet long by 24 feet wide . Is this to large ? Does it even make sense to have such a bay?

I would guess most of those operators both individual and fleet are using mobile truck washing companies

I have a truck bay that is a standard sized bay with dual HP guns (you can't use a boom on semis with a trailer or long RVs).
The problems I've experienced over the years...?
*RV's try to come in and dump their septic tanks in our drains. If we catch them starting to dump, but no liquid has come out, we let them know they are about to commit a crime against public health and safety, that it's a felony, and how would they like to proceed (as I'm video recording them).
If they do dump the doo doo, we file a report with police and they get to deal with it. You sh¡t on me, I sh¡t on you.
*Other problems are truckers will need an oil service and try to dump oil right into the drain, similar response as above (hazardous material dump).
*5th wheels are a greasy mess and we don't allow it, if they do it, it trashes the bay and the walls.
*Lastly, for whatever reason, they sometimes back out of the stall and forget I have a vacuum island in their way and the dominoes fall.
Overall I'm not too impressed with that bay and have seriously considered just making it another regular vehicle bay.

No, it truthfully doesn’t make sense to have such a bay. Exploring the option isn’t worth your time.

I bought used equipment from an operator that thought a bay for oversized vehicles would be worthwhile. Small, abusive, high maintenance market.

If their is a lot of dirt and mud coming off it would make since to move dirt out of the way so it does not go into a drain. If you going to do more than rinse or wash, like detailing it would be nice to have some room. Especially if equipment is needed around the truck like shampooer. Take a trip to other cleaning places and see what they are working with. Mine will fit a full size RV, but this shop is expensive to heat in the winter. I detail cars, boats and more though.
