We have been installing credit cards on our vending machines for over 10 years now and had very little vandalism on the card reader until the last year or so. I don’t know what goes through a vandal’s mind (maybe an echo!!) when they destroy a plastic reader; they have to know they can’t get into the vendor that way. Be that as it may, we are seeing an increase in the destruction of these readers. We have made a couple of attempts to make a steel cover for the reader to protect it, but each version of the reader has a little different geometry. Credit card systems are being used more and more now, so the design seems to settling down.
We never pushed the reader covers before now, but now we think that it ought to be done. Steel covers installed over the reader with the purchase of a vending machine would save the customer serious aggravation after it has happened plus all the time and money that will be spent to return the credit card to full operation.
The steel ShurVend Reader Cover can be installed on any of our vendors at the time of purchase for a $50 add-on during the credit card system purchase. We may not like it or have to react this way to these real situations, but vandalism seems to be increasing each passing day. The Reader Cover is powder coated white and will save damage and aggravation for the customer over time.
