Does anyone know if a motor that is rated for 230/460 volt operation can run on 208 volts? Most motors are listed as 208-230/460, but I have one (made in Italy) that only lists 230 and 460. When it runs, it's a 10 h.p. motor, instead of drawing 24 anps, it pulls about 50 amps. If it can't run on 208, is there something simple that can be done to make it?

I had some foreign motors and I used transformers (3ph) to give you 240. I still have that set up in the warehouse. I could bring it to Vegas.

As a general rule, a 240/480 3-phase motor can run on 208 without issue, but it will draw more amps so that has to be allowed for in the switching, wiring and thermal protection.

Sometimes a european motor runs on a different Hertz cycle. Check to see if it is set to run on the american setup otherwise you will need a VF drive.
