I have had Rain-X as a top package service for about 8 years. I also sell it Ala Carte on occasion. I have tried to promote it through visual aids, signage on drums before entrance, poster size info on walls, banners and etc. It's just not working out increasing brand awareness. Most customers just don't really care.

The price per gallon is ridiculously expensive. I have tried other brands with similar results for half the price.

I know I will be sacrificing the brand name by switching but I don't think it will hurt much if I use a generic name.

Some considered names are: Shield X, X-Tra Shield, Paint Protect.

Haven't made a final decision but any suggestions will be helpful!

Message should convey attributes and benefits of product.

For example, rain-x total body repels water on glass and paint, shines paint and protects paint against UV for up to 30 days.

Does advertising and promotional materials convey this message?

For example, no one offers drying agent as up sell. Reason is it doesn’t shine well or last long.

Rain-X is maybe $0.50 to $0.75 per application. Fact it provides benefit for 30 days is value-added that allows charging extra $3.00 or so.

Furthermore, if you believed in product strongly enough you could provide a guarantee.

The promotional message is, it shines, protects, and repels! I have a 6 foot wide by 3 feet banner that every customer sees as they enter in my wash. Shine, protects, and repels on every piece of point of sale.

What kind of guarantee would suffice?

I've never been a believer in high cost products in the carwash like the Rain X. I'd make up your own unique name and use it for your favorite sealer / wax product.

I quit using rain x long ago because of the insane price and never looked back. Numbers still going in the right direction.

I’d guarantee it for 30 days as OEM claim.

If someone is dissatisfied enough to complain, give them another wash. Cost is only unit variable cost. What is that, maybe $1.50?

If the advertising ain’t making it, try promotion.

For example, pick a weekend and offer free rain-x with any carwash purchase.

When Rain X First Came out I would not put it in because i felt it had little value as an A la Carte item. Then when I was thinking about Tire Shine I put in both that and Rain X to create a new top package. (5 day C;lean Car Guarantee) As a package builder I think it has value. As A La Carte, not so much. Went to a new wash with the Rain X Arch from TSS which had excellent appeal due to the chasing lights but due to a lot of foam on the car you could only really see the Driver Side Leg. Wish TSS made just a chasing light leg. E- Mailed them. So far no response.
