Has anybody tried out the T8 Led lighting or something similar?
How is this compared to the fluorescent tubes.
Any drawbacks?
Thanks

I haven't tried it, but I've compared the specs. They produce LESS light per watt (therefore less energy efficient), and cost up to $300 a pair. You could just take out half your bulbs to save some electricity and still have more light than LEDs.

LED’s have a quality of light superior to all other types of lighting and they deliver it more efficiently.

According to Lighting Science Group, LED delivers 112 lumens per watt compared to 50 to 70 lumens per watt for a conventional fluorescent light (CFL).

LED’s can last more than eight times as long as CFL.

LED’s are also dimmable and come up to full brightness instantly in cold temperatures.

LED’s distribute light evenly over a wide area. If you need a minimum light level over an entire parking lot, you would need fewer LED fixtures as compared to other technology.

T5 lights are much closer to LEDs than the old school T12 Mr. Roman used for a comparison. T5s 20,000 hours vs. 50,000 hours for LEDs. T5s are closer to 90 lumens per watt. Leds will be the thing in the future but they still do not cost out compared to T5s or even T8s IMO. I have a few of each kind and like the T5 best even over the LEDs I have. CFL normally stands for compact fluorescent light. T 12 is the old style of fluorescent that is being phased out.

The former part is purely subjective. as for the latter:

SOME LEDs produce UP TO 112 lumens per watt initially, and they lose output over their life. MOST of them maintain 60-70 lumens whereas T5 HO fluorescents maintain 90 lumens per watt over their life. Also take note that the "Lighting Science Group" is not an independent entity or government laboratory that determines such things; it is a manufacturer of commercial LED lighting (Go figure).

As a rule, they don't. An LED that is driven to produce over 100 lumens per watt will have a life expectancy of around 50,000 hours. Most that last around 80,000 hours are only producing 60-70 lumens per watt. A T5 HO fluorescent bulb will last 30-36,000 hours, obviously far more than half the life of an LED driven to the max. The math is obvious: you get less light per watt from a fixture that costs six times as much and lasts only about twice as long.

Only if you spread the LEDs over a wide area, which means more fixtures.

That contradicts the previous comment.

Well, like MEP said, because of the hoops that we make the spammers go through to even get in, they have had to slow down and act "normal" until they have a certain number of post, then they start adding the links to whoever is paying them. Most are too dumb to do it, so they get eliminated immediately. Usually, even if they don't put a link in their English is slightly off, and I check a few things.
