Hi all
I have a truck wash with 4 bays (each bay is 22'x100') and each bay has 2 Cat 530 pumps. I understand that the Cat 530 pumps are rated for 5 gpm. We currently have 2 hot water tanks that fill up a secondary tank to supply hot water to 8 of our Cat pumps. I also need hot water for showers, washroom, sinks, and dishwasher (we also run a deli).

One of the hot water tanks have broken down and I am considering the possibility of going tankless (or boiler). We were going to add 2 more bays but we stopped that plan once the oil price tanked. We do hope to add these 2 bays if the oil price ever goes back up and more customers come in again.

A very good friend of mine advised against it because of maintenance issues. We have a water softener that water goes through before it hits the hot water tank so Calcium build up should not be an issue.

I was told with the tankless solution, there are stuff that gets caught in some sort of filter that I should be cleaning out regularly.

So I guess I have two questions:

  1. Are there any industrial tankless heaters that you guys recommend that we use? We typically set our hot water temperature to 160F
  2. What are some of the maintenance issues I need to know about so that I can keep the tankless running for 10+ years?

As for the boiler, we WERE going to add a boiler since we would also have infloor heating for our outdoor pads to melt snow and ice outside our future 6 bays (remember we were going to expand) but that will not happen until business picks up reliably again. This boiler would have provided all the hot water we need for pumps, domestic and infloor heating.
