I currently weep my guns and blow down the brushes with air on freezing nights. This has worked down to 25 degrees. My question is what about the tire cleaner and presoak lines? It is supposed to get down to the teens this weekend. I’m considering purging the tire cleaner and presoak lines and then shutting the bays down. Thoughts?

I do not have floor heat or trough heat…I live in Florida.

SW Indiana melon fields.
If those lines are bundled with the HP bay hose that should be enough to keep them from freezing. If they aren't bundled you may want to blow them down or maybe pump some anti-freeze soap or WW fluid through them.

If I'm closing the carwash due to cold weather, I blow out all the LP lines. If you're concerned about lines freezing, why would you only blow out half of them?

Jim, tire clean seems to be less of a problem for me than presoak. I assume it has to do with something in the product having a lower freezing point.

I'm assuming you're shutting down at night. In a pinch I have mixed anti-freeze windshield washer fluid into the hyrdominder tanks and ran the product through the lines.

  1. Turn off the hydrominders ( to prevent further dilution)
  2. Pour windshield washer fluid in the tank of diluted chemical to equate an approximately 30% solution of WW fluid
  3. Run through the lines. Often you can detect the presence of the product at the gun because of a decrease in foaminess or slight change in color, etc.
  4. Shut the bay down.

if whatever solution you run through is about 30% windshield washer fluid it'll do the trick. It's fairly cheap and readily available.

You can also make impromptu anti-freeze FB detergent with about 4 gallons antifreeze, and maybe 1/2 gallon FB detergent. Run through with appropriate tip.

I went in this morning right at sunrise and the weep mizer display showed 20 degrees…nothing frozen…nothing broken. I’ll load up on windshield washer fluid to prepare for the teens this weekend. Thanks for your help.

I agree with IB Washin. Bundle them up with your HP since you don't have trough heat. I didn't have it either, but when I installed it a couple winters ago, I bundled all my LP lines to the heat (hose circulating warm liquid for my foaming brushes) hose and have enjoyed all LP functions keeping from freezing, even in sub zero temps.
