When you hire a new lube tech, how do you go about making sure he or she is properly trained and ready to work? Do you have your own programs or do you have your distributor/oil company's training that you use?
I ask because we're meeting with Valvoline in Las Vegas to discuss numbers and to otherwise be convinced to switch all of our locations to Valvoline. We acquired a new location that uses Valvoline and has 5 more years on their contract. They offer a training program, great promotional products, etc. but it of course is included in your cost of goods. And their prices are pretty high..
Shell offered to give us $60,000 if we sign with them and they will figure it into our bulk oil (no interest). They don't offer "training", but there are other resources available to train new employees that they can point us to.
$60,000 would really help right now because we have to buy a Duramax engine for a 2008 GMC Sierra (a lube tech, been with us for 5 years, sprayed WD-40 into the air intake of a Diesel engine..... soared past 8000 RPM and made a mess inside the engine, blew out rods and pistons) $13,400.
Training would be nice too, but I'm leaning towards Shell. Any advice?
