I'm new to the carwash business and to this forum. I recently purchased a 7 bay ss carwash with my business partner and we are trying to slowly update a lot of the aging equipment. We are wanting to add credit card acceptance to our bays. In the future we hope to add new coin boxes and timers but with our limited budget we are hoping we can just add the credit card acceptance to our current set up and see how much it is used by our customers. I'm hoping someone on here can let me know if it is possible with our current set up. we also have the old school imonex "tripwire" style coin acceptors that I would like to update as well. I will attach pictures of what i'm working with.. Thanks in advance!

You can install Cryptopay in any car wash, on any electronic coin-operated equipment. You have to wire it inline with the coin acceptor so it sends coin pulses to the timer. There are a couple ways it can be configured to work in count-down mode, always a set number of pulses per swipe, then either another swipe to add more time or restart, or a button press to add credits. You can run it in count-up mode, but without a display timer I don't think that's a good idea.
IMO (and I'm sure anyone who has done so will agree) you should upgrade to digital display timers which will show the time in count-up mode. Your customers will spend more when they can just keep washing until they're done, rather than having to come back and add time. You have standard Weben meter boxes and doors which will accept replacement doors like this:

Thanks for great info. i'm not sure if its allowed on this forum but can you let me know where i can find the replacement doors? I tried searching around on google but didn't really turn up were i could find them.
Can you post a picture or 2 of your current face plates? There are couple of different places that you can get them made. Etowah valley can make and Kleen-Rite can get them made for you or you can take one as sample to a metal fabricator and have them made. Either way they aren't going to be cheap. I'd probably bite the bullet and replace everything and start over, coin box, coin acceptor and timer.

The one I pictured was custom made. I can get the bare door for as little as $65 depending on the quantity. There are a few standard layouts that various car wash suppliers sell but AFAIK none of them are exactly how I had these designed.

They seem to hold up well, not uncommon to see them last five years. I don't know about ice, but you could put a 24V heater on the inside of the door.
Thanks for all the great info. I decided to bite the bullet and will be putting in new meter boxes with dixmor timers. I’m trying to figure out how the wiring for the new boxes will work. I have gs402 and keltner timers in my equipment room. When I’m installing the new boxes do I just remove the old timers?
Also i was planning on surface mounting my new boxes. I haven’t seen many people doing it that way. Is there a reason for that?

Yes, you'll remove all the old timers. The Dixmor will do everything, just connect the timed load (white wire) straight to the input on the rotary switch.
You don't want someone trying to rip the box off the wall, especially if there's a coin vault at the bottom. That's the main reason they're mounted in the wall, they're usually bolted or welded to the steel frame.

There may be more wisdom in what Kramerwv realized with his possibly sarcastic post. Depending specific (deep state swamp-bank availability) of the dollar coins in your area. Something to seriously consider ... if you only give out dollar coins in your changers ... you may be surprised at the volume of usage & resulting savings on your "creepy crawly" CryptoPay Merchant Fee Cost!

I noticed the elegance of the hopefully "not too much extra maintenance" of the push buttons in Damoni88's pic! Although ... limiting the bills to a maximum of $5 seems not logical based on our experience.
Not much work at all. Looks better imo. We do fine with 1's and 5's. I clear them daily. I am extremely happy with my bay doors.
i’m not exactly sure, but i think i’ve had my cryptopay bay swipers in for at least 8 years. i have never had to repair or replace them. all i do is swipe a card cleaner through it once a month. quite possibly the best made often used equipment of all car wash equipment i’ve purchased over 20 years!
those are some nice looking ginsan boxes. ill look at getting a quote from them. any other suggestions on boxes I should use? I'm also going to be gutting my equipment room so any suggestions on which pump stand equipment i should go with would be greatly appreciated. Im new to the carwash world and this forum has been a great resource. i"m looking to find new equipment that also has good tech support.
