I recently opened up my new automatic. I purchased a used unitec wash select ii due to budget constrant. I purchased the mother board upgrade, new modem and high speed credit card option. I believe everything to be hooked up correctly and internet is supplied to the new modem.

When I select a wash package and try to pay using a credit card, the machine does not acknowledge a card at all. My distributor left on his honey moon and I am trying to figure this things out. When he left he said the card reader that was new was bad. I received another new card reader and installed it as the instructions said. Same issue no acknowledgment of the credit card. The modem checks out in the diagnostic test. THe credit card card test does not show anything.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Is there a particulular setting that is not turned on?

Thanks

I did the same as you and had the exact same problem. More detail of exactly what is happening would be helpful. You may have to be standing at the unit to be very specific. In my case it was the " pic" chip on the motherboard. The chip itself was corrupted. Also there are different versions of this chip. I don't remember the version number, but there is one that is specific for the hi speed option. It could also be as simple as programming in your IP address or some other programming parameter. I would advise sending unitec an email asking for assistance from Luke Hajiontoni in tech support. When he calls or emails, get his extension # and make an appointment to call him when you are in front of the machine. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. Hope this helps

So in the diagnostics menu neither card reader works? Did you swap cables and check proper cable connections?? If so, then I would probably start looking at motherboard problems.

Good luck

I tried the card reader with both wiring harnesses. I followed the instructions and made sure the harness was plugged in exactly how Unitec instructed.

Getnbusy,

Thanks for the post. I will send Unitec and email and see if I can schedule a time to get with Luke over the phone.

Here is my attempt at explaining more detail.

When I select a wash, the display says enter $8 for the express wash. I then try to swipe my cc and there is no acknowledgement of the swipe, the display just continues to say enter $8 for the express wash. It does the exact same thing in the diagonistic texts, no acknowledgement what's so ever of the credit card swipe.

Are you absolutely sure that nothing at all happens ?? DOes the display read "bad card read" or does the voice say "your card could not be read" ??

Just a few more notes.

-Check the alignment of the ribbon cable for the card reader on both ends. It is very easy to miss one pin in either direction. also make sure the cable is flat and not twisted.

-you can also take a laptop out to the unit and unplug the ethernet cable from the modem and plug the ethernet cable into your laptop to seee if you can get online. be sure you are online via the cable and not online by wifi. If you cannot get online via the cable, go inside the equipment room and plug your laptop directly into the modem and see if you can get online. If you can, this tells you there is a problem with the cat 5 ethernet cable. If that is the case, google a picture of cat 5 wire orientation and make sure your installer doesnt have a wire mixed up, or more likely, the end on backwards. Very very easy to mix the wires up because they are so small, and also easy to inadvertantly put the end on backwards. If mixed up just go to lowes and get some wire ends and some crimpers and replace them.

-The pic chip is about 1/3 the way down on the door side of the mother board. It is the lower and skinnier of the 2 chips in that vacinity. NOT the bigger"EPROM" chip. The "pic" chip is the chip that actually reads the card. Check your older board to see if the version number on the pic chip are same or different. If they are the same, and you already checked everything else again, I would swap the chips and give it a try. (my brand new chip was corrupted)

Lastly,
Obviously you want to use all the new stuff and that hi dollar board you bought, however, Unitec had a problem with the "new" motherboards "designed" for hi speed. THis was a couple years back and I would assume this has been corrected by now. You can search the forum and there were a couple threads on this.

If I were you, I would put the newer "pic" chip in the old board and install the old board back into the machine.

Please repost and let us know what you've found to be the problem. When you find the problem and correct it or swap parts, it will likely be an instant fix

good luck
hope this helps

Everything appears to be plugged in correctly. We ran new cat 5 wire from the unitec to the modem/router earlier. I am getting a proper connection read at the unitec modem and the modem/router in my ER. I got the same reads when I plugged in my laptop computer.

I have an email into unitec and have requested that Luke contact me or schedule a time. I look forward to getting this thing fixed and behind me!

I will update later.

Thanks

Unitec called and We walked through it. Turns out I missed the top pin on the door plug (embarrassed) The reader then declined cards but tested out correctly in diagnostic texts. As we continued trouble shooting the tech found that my modem lost my bank info. Unitec is programming a new modem and sending to me. Should have cc processing on Thursday.

Thanks for your help getnbusy.
