Is anyone doing unlimited monthly wash programs by way of rfid in their in bay automatics?

If so, how is it going?

The good thing about unlimited wash program is time value of money – you get it up front and with automatic recharge module (ARM) it gets even better.

Bad thing with unlimited is it can affect throughout of in-bay automatic - rate at which the carwash generates money through sales.

The reason is unlike a conveyor an in-bay does not have built-in excess capacity.

For example, assume an in-bay with average time of 5-minutes a wash or 12 cars an hour. Average price is $7.00 and cost of goods is $1.00.

Throughput (T) = (12 * $7) – (12 * $1.00)

T = $72

Now, assume during a busy hour that three of your customers are on unlimited plan.

T = (3 * $0) + (9 * $7) – (12 * $1)

T = $51

Here, the plan price is $30.00 wash all you want during the month.

So, the three plan members would contribute $90 divide by 30 days = $3.00

T = $51 + $3 = $54

$72 - $54 = $22

$22 is opportunity cost of not having all paying customers during the hour and/or not having the capacity to wash more cars an hour.

To avoid this, you would want to have lots of members. Proof,

200 members * $30 = $6,000 divide by 30 days = $200

This shows if you don’t have excess capacity, the ability to convince (sell) people to join has more influence on success of plan than machine.

I agree with all the above. I'm still looking for actual stats for someone that has done it. Possibly everyone has done their homework, come to the same conclusions and thereby not gone that route?
