We just shipped a vendor with the latest version of the Nayax (formerly Iris and Arrow) VPOS credit card system that is capable of reading all three (3) payment systems; magnetic stripe, smart card (with chip imbedded), and contactless (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, etc). Each reader version has some geometry changes that are just enough of a difference to change the security cover design for these readers. I got on the horn with a tech at InOne today so we could test the smart card and the mag stripe; mag stripe work fine and the smart card with the chip was read by the reader. The tech had never tested the reader before either, so he was happy to know it works. The big question seems to be if the firmware that the processor uses is up to date and will allow a purchase to be made. It is just a matter of time before this all works and the pressure is there to get this done quickly. I think it will be sooner rather than later. I don’t have an iPhone 6 or a tap and go card, so I don’t know about that.

I was pleasantly surprised that the smart card worked and we can adjust to the security cover of the reader as each version is received and installed. The geometry of each reader can change in a matter of weeks, so I think all manufacturers are working day and night to maintain their place in the market. Personally I look forward to credit card use to get rid of the money temptation for vandalism and customers will need to adjust prices to pay the fees for using these systems.
