wall, window and equipment coating

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a coating that you could apply to all your walls, machines or windows and when it gets dirty you just clean it first and than later you peel it off getting a brand new carwash. At present I use a film for my windows and that works kind of. Is there anything on the market that you know of?

Being a huge Nascar fan the I figured the windshield "tear-off" material would be the perfect thing for car wash windows. I chased the stuff down, but have never used it. I have a few windows in my autos and also a walk-thru door for them. The windows are so stained that you can't see through them. I thought maybe I would replace the glass and put the film on when they were new and change it about once a year. The film is quite expensive, about $2 sq. ft. 3 1/2 years ago. It also only comes on a 5' wide roll so there was going to be a significant amt. of waste in my case. I only bought enough to do the walk-thru, but I've never done it. I don't like to rush into these things.

On my automatic digital signs there are several tear offs over the display board. It is in layers and has maybe 10 sheets. When one gets dirty just peel the top one off and it is like having a brand new sign. Trouble is after a few years I ran out of tear offs and now have to clean it with acid. Too bad the whole machine was not covered with that stuff.

I don't have a suggestion of anything new, but what is the film you use now?

I bought it from 3M. It is normally on brand new TVs to protect the screen.
I put it on when the windows were almost new. It is okay. Nothing to rave about it but at least it protects my windows. It has been on for 1 1/2 years now and I cleaned it a few times but now its time to replace it. Like IB Washingcars I enquired about the tear-off stuff but didn't do it because of the price. That 3M stuff I use is about $0.25 per sqf.
Apparently there is a company that puts some coating on the walls and nothing sticks to it, I was told. But I haven't seen it and they want $2,800 for it. Snake oil? I don't know.

The only thing I know that could do this is a clear 2 part urethane coating. It is very expensive, hard to find, and hard to work with. When it dries it forms a very hard slick surface that is chemical resistant. I know a university that used it to combat graffitti problems. They put it on the surfaces that usually got graffitied and then just pressure washed the graffitti off. Dirt, chemicals, and mildew will not permanently bond to its surface and so they just wash off.
