Aside from Plain 'OL wasp spray, is there anything else that will deter wasps from wanting to build nests in my vacs? Something you can hang in the wiring/motor cover that wasps absolutely hate?

If they like nesting somewhere, about all you can do is try to make it where they can't get in. Maybe roll up some screen material to fill the gap between the dome and the tank.

If you destroy a nest, you need to remove every trace of where it was in the dome. If you leave even the nub of the nest, it attracts more wasps and they'll just rebuild it.

We used to have a lot of yellow jackets in our trash receptacles so we would would throw moth balls in the cans to keep them away. It worked pretty well and they would be easy to put under your vac domes. The downside is that they smell like mothballs. If your customer base is elderly, that may notbe a problem.

For the life of me I can never smell moth balls. I could never get their little legs apart. (God, old jokes never die.) Seriously if you find something that does this, please let us know. They are a big problem in Florida. I have found that good old WD40 will kill them for some reason.

Yea, I was wondering about Moth Balls too. Ha...The Moth Ball joke is an oldie but goodie!

I went out online to see what I could dig up...Seems as though Moth Balls, WD-40, Ivory bar soap rubbed onto the surface, and dryer sheets are some of the things posted that seem to work. I'm thinking I'm going to try dryer sheets as they will be the easiest to secure. Definetly don't want them coming loose and clogging the air intake of the motors....Might also coat the inside of the dome with WD-40. It should leave an oil residue that might deter them from starting a nest.

Then there are fake wasp nests you can buy, like BeeeFree and Waspinator! They look like hornets nests...I don't think those would be a good idea for a car wash for obvious reasons....
