I was driving in a residential area at 25mph, and hit by a drunk driver going 60+ thru a stop sign at 6pm . His vehicle rolled 3 times then hit a tree, and then slid up to a house. I had very minor injuries- Fire dept, and Amb, Said it was obvious The seatbelts did their job, and the airbags also did their job. Had never really been in more than a scrape in all my years of driving, and my 05 dodge stratus(between 5 washes almost 90K) Hardly had a few scratches, and is now scrap. The airbags are really an amazing engineering feat -they inflate and deflate in less than .5 of a second. I have always worn a seatbelt -even when it wasn't the law, but today I found out how important they are.

I've flipped two vehicles, seatbelts will save your life. I rarely leave my garage without buckling up.

I had a wreck when I was a young, dumb kid, wasn't wearing a seatbelt. If I had been I surely would have walked away, but instead I spent a month in the hospital in traction. Now I'm uncomfortable even sitting in a running car without the seatbelt on.

John,

Happy that you are OK. One never knows when these people are going to cross your path.

I thought the Ins. co might be hard to deal with - I have progressive. But they are Number 1. they treated me fairly, I got a couple $ more than clean retail..Very fair and cut a check right away. They just took off the$250 deductible, and said if they could collect from the drunk driver i would get my deductible back. Also issued a tax cert. so I won't pay sales tax on part of the next car. I was surprised, as any time I deal with Ins co's, as when a customer hits something, usually Not so nice.

I have Progressive too, haven't actually used them for a claim but heard of the same good service from others. They were also $50 a month cheaper than the next best quote.

I have Hartford, They are endorsed by AARP which I'm not endorsing for sure. They were $300 less than Safeco. I have had a number of claims and each time they handled it perfectly. I am surprised but must give credit where due. I would check them out at least for price.
