Which type of pump should I be using for presoak? My choices are santoprene, viton, and kalrez. What kind of lifespan can I expect from each? Is it worth the extra cost to upgrade to something other than santoprene?

I use the viton for all my low pressure applications and have not replaced any of them in 2 1/2 years since I switched over to the flojets.

I use all Viton just to avoid having to stock two pumps. One of the original Santoprene pumps lasted 7 years. Two of the original santoprene pumps only lasted two years, and they were on the harshest chemicals. Both replacements (Viton) have lasted more than five years so far. I've never used a Kalrez, but I don't think it would last longer. Except for two Santoprene pumps that leaked, my problems have been with the pump stalling from wear of parts that never touch the chemicals.

I’d look into replacing the Flo-jet with a Procon pump. 16 years ago I replaced my Flo-jet presoak pump with a Procon pump. That original pump is still in service today. I wonder how many Flo-jet pumps I’d have replaced by now it I’d have continued using them. If you want to continue using the Flo-jet pump use the Viton pump.
