Yelp: Friend or foe... or something else?

When my son got an internship with him I told him "If their building was on fire I would not walk across the street to urinate on the fire if that would extinguish it. " At first I took it to heart if an idiot posted some non sense like "Go in the morning, the soap is better". Then of course there was the person who inspects a vehicle for the first time in 3 months after having the salt washed off and finds a single mark a half inch long observable from a distance of 6 inches in the right light, and the right angle and post how your wash scratches cars.

Or another with a circular scuff mark on the hood who sees it a couple of days after the wash and says the wash did it. When I show her the equipment does not contact the hood in a circular motion, she says the guy who dried off the car must have had some jewelry on and done it. I tell her that once the car leaves the premises we are not responsible and it's impossible for me to investigate it now, days later. Of course she made a negative post.

Then I visited Yelp reviews for other operators local sites and found similar idiotic comments like one for a brand new cloth tunnel where the poster commented on old style brushes that could mark the paint.

Trying to get set up as an owner to respond was a huge pain.

Then I noticed how little traffic there really was. For some reason Yelp sends me monthly reviews for one of the places - 4 Views . Really?

Another location. Family operated since 1953. Wash about 100K a year and we sell gasoline. Total of 10 yelp reviews. Of course the numb nuts are the ones who tend to review. 10 reviews out of a million washes!!!

Watch the SOuthPark carton from this year where they roast YELP. It is very funny, so funny that YELP is suing the show for doing the same thing they do to everyone elses business.

Just watched the South Park episode, it was great. A lot of truth in it. It affects some businesses more than others, but I don't think it matters much to us in the car wash business. For restaurants, it does.
