Laserwash 4000 LaserMinder Impact Recovery option feedback

This is a bit of a carryover from my Triple Foam post but I thought it would be better as it's own thread. I'm faced with a choice regarding a software upgrade and I'm looking for people's feedback. To be able to do what I want with the triple foam option I can upgrade to Software Version 19b for about $200 or I can really upgrade and get Version 20 which includes Impact Recovery for about $1100.

I have been told that 19b has a bug in it that may keep the arch either at the passenger front corner or drivers rear corner spraying presoak until it times out. Supposedly it rarely happens, like 1 in 10,000 washes rarely. Anyone running this version and having this issue? If so, how often is it? Is that accurate?

As far as the Impact Recovery version, I'm going to look back through my records and see how many times I had a machine down because of a mirror or trailer hitch impact. It's not a lot but they sure do seem to happen when your're as far away as possible. Those of you that have this option, how well does it work? Any other issues with it? Sometimes when I manually reset an impact, the donut has to be pushed down by hand as it doesn't freely slide down below the prox. I'm wondering if the machine changing direction will be enough to reset it. Is there a trick to keeping that freely moving?

Lastly, anyone have a version 20 chip for sale? May as well ask.

I have the laserminder. Software 2.0 with the lasernet system. $2k for all but worth it. The impact recovery really works quite well. As a matter of fact I've been in site 2-3 times when it was in use. Adding both the lasernet and the laserminder has allowed me to diagnose issues quickly and less trips to the wash for machine errors. I like it.

Also, there seems to be a sweet spot with the tension on the arch. Definitely not taut, but not too loose. Mine just about falls when I pull it. The movement of the bridge finishs it.

I have experienced the impact collar sticking up on our machines. The fix I came up with is to take the arch apart and get a drill bit a little bigger than the plastic bushing inside the collar and drill it out. This will prevent the collar from sticking up. Good luck.

Can someone take a look at their software version that has the Laserminder impact recovery? It would be greatly appreciated. I have the opportunity to buy two A5000 computers that have software version 20c in them. I think that's the right version and I can buy both for less than one software chip from PDQ.

These computers are refurbished and I need to send mine back to them or pay a core charge. Besides me needing the upgraded software, my computers work fine. So I have two options, I can install the refurbished ones or I can just swap software chips and send the refurbished ones back. If I swap the entire controller is there a way to save my car counts? Is that info on another chip I could possibly swap? For all I know I may lose that info even if I keep my controllers. Can anyone enlighten me on that issue?

I am not sure. Seems like a reboot would erase the car counts. You could just make note of all settings, and start from scratch. Your going to have to make note of all the wash and 80# parameters. You probably could just call PDQ. They are pretty easy to get a hold of.

I've decided on just replacing the whole controllers with the refurbished ones as I was going to lose my car counts anyway you slice it. I'll hang on to my old controllers for a month and make sure the new ones work ok.

Bryan is getting to the liftblock assembly as simple as removing the nut and bolt that goes through the block clamp and sliding it down? I have the new style lift plate to swap in that has the catch for the side arch and I want to try what you suggested regarding the plastic bushing.

I got the new controllers with the updated software and I also took my arches apart and cleaned the hell out of the impact collars so they move much more freely. I had to loosen the rubber bumper a bit also so the vertical bar would come back down. So far I've tested the impact recovery once and it did in fact work like I hoped. The two questions are have 1) how do you know when you have the rubber bumper too loose and what kind of problems will that cause? 2) Are there any settings regarding the impact recovery? Someone told me you can adjust how far you want the bridge to move when it tries to go around the obstruction however I can't find anything related to it in any of the settings? Thanks

My spray arch and rubber bumper are not too tight. I have it set to when I pull it back to imitate an impact it won't come back by itself but the movement of the bridge will vibrate it back to position. I hope that makes sense. It is definitely not too tight.

I have no idea if you can adjust the recovery settings. My setup was plug and play.
