I have no experience with them, but the guy I recently bought my Ring-O-Matic from said he had one, and loved it. Actually used it sometimes to fill the dump on the ROM as it was easier sometimes.

What do you do with the sludge after removing it? do you have to let it dry out before disposing of it?

I have one at each location and use it for emergency mud removal. It depends on what your local rules are for waste disposal as to what you do with the pit dirt. I have found over the years that people will see them and want to borrow them from you to clean a pit they have. They never get returned so never loan them out.

Steve did you just climb out from under a rock! The Handi-cam has been around a long time. If you like hard work get one, I prefer to call a sucker truck and have the tanks pumped out. We have a pump out about every 18 months, costs us about $450.00

Same here! Bought one and used it once! My outside tanks are much too big to even make a dent with one. If you had pits like in the video? Maybe I could see the need...It costs me $250 to get my tanks pumped once a year. Much easier!

From about 50 years ago (Probably longer but that is as far back as I can recall) to about 25 years ago that is all we used. Then we went to the pitsuckers.

I need to have your pumper come see me, I pay 2k two to three times a year to pump one of my locations - 6 bays. Each bay pit is 5.5' x 3' x 8' . My other wash is half that (half the mud) . What's the size of your pits?

Just got one delivered today and yeah it's a little bit of work to get the sludge out but it's a good tool to have, it's worth the money.

We have 4 500 gallon pits at our wash and have to dig them out 3-4 times a year. We have used the handi-clams since we started, with great success (and sore backs lol). Only caution I would give you is that if you are digging hard mud, you need to make sure you don't put too much pressure on the handle trying to close the jaws - we have broken the handle mechanism doing this. When we get down to the hardpacked mud we now take smaller "bites" to avoid this.

Does anybody have any experience with this tool because at over $200 for this thing it might be a worthy investment.

here's a video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8rA61oWoKo

and a link to the company I found it at: http://www.locateunderground.net/product.php?printable=Y&productid=16230
I've had mine for a couple of years and really like it. I had a pit fill up unexpectedly recently (probably someone dumping) and was able to use my handi clam to pull out enough sludge to get by. Dumped it into another pit. I originally bought it to empty a secondary sediment pit which is accessed thru a manhole sewer type cover too small for the machine my regular guy uses.
