Folks,

I have one older looking flag. Front limit flag. It is rusting a bit. Can rust on flags cause a bad prox read. I put a new switch in and it does the same thing. Moved my rusty flag forward and began to read and stop where I wanted. Can rust prevent the prox from operating properly?

Yes, it can. Use some steel wool on it to smooth it out, it may prolong the life. Best idea would be to go through and upgrade them all to stainless flags. I believe there is an upgrade kit.

BBE,

Thanks. That's what I figured. I have two stainless flags right now. I'll head over to my distributor and pick up the final stainless flag. Thanks a ton.

You will find that stainless is harder to read with an inductive prox switch than steel is. If you look at the specs for inductive proximity switches there will be a correction factor for stainless of around .75 - .85 depending on the type of stainless. Magnetic steel is much easier to read.

True...until it becomes corroded. The stainless flags cured the problem for us.

You can always sand them smooth and paint them with Chassis Saver.
