Need info on selling washes at next door gas station.

If any one sells their car washs at next door C-stores with Pay at Pump how much do you give them for their commission to do this?
I operate two PDQ access machines.

10% commission fee out of the total amount of washes sold for that month for selling our washes at the BP Station next door to me.

it's a very good idea, I know of a few washes here in town with a C-Store next door to them and they don't partner with the Car Wash and it doesn't make any cents (pun intended) because it would benefit both sites. We get I would say a little over half of our business from the C-Store because of that convenience factor.

We have a code a wash up at the BP station for rewash codes to be given if needed otherwise we have staff at the wash to handle issues.

So, I have an American changer PayStation (AC50001 maybe). Could I hook up with the store across the road? Only a 2 lane road, so not real far off. If so, how would I go about doing this?

I looked onto American Changer's website and I didn't see anything that would allow you to hook up to a POS system but what confuses me it that there is a keypad on the AC8000 and AC8001 paystations to accept codes best bet would be to call them and see what options they have available for your carwash

To begin, you will need to have at least capabilities of Access B pay station with bill/coin/credit, receipt printer, remote access capabilities and WIFI connectivity.

If you have to upgrade, figure $20,000 installed per unit.

Next, there will be cost to tie into the store’s MPDs and sales counter plus marketing expense for pump toppers, signs, promotion, etc.

So, how much commission to pay will depend on the circumstances and deal.

What’s it worth?

For the c-store owner, having a substantial carwash operation “on site” can fill a store profit gap of as much as 25 percent.

However, you won’t be sharing these profits.

For carwash operator, current gas/wash rate is 150:1. So, if store sells 100,000 gallons per month, expect 667 washes from pay at pump.

However, if customer must cross the street or exit property and re-enter another property as in no direct access (easement), figure gas/wash rate of around 250:1.

Like paying a tip at restaurant, the calculated tip amount (commission) should exclude sales tax (operating expenses).

If average revenue is $8.50, profit would be less $2.50 per unit variable cost plus fixed cost plus start-up expense (POS tie-in).

Here, 25 percent after expenses would be fair profit.

I also recommend a legally binding contract. The reason is exit strategy.

For example, if the “up” from the tie in is 25 percent, the market value of the business increases by 25 percent.

Without a legally binding and transferrable contract, you would not be able to realize this gain.

Don't think the American machine has that capability. I like the Unitec machines because you can sell off site with no communication between the cstore and the wash. Works by encryption, which is a fancy word for black magic. So yes you would have to buy a different entry system, but if the numbers work, it will pay for itself in under a year.

With the Unitec Wash Select 2 or newer, you simply buy the off site POS4000 and install it at an offsite location. It can be right next door or any distance away. When someone at the offsite buys a wash, they get a ticket with a 6 digit code. The two units are in synch so that the code has the purchased wash encrypted in the code. The customer just enters that code at the wash and they get the wash purchased. You can set how long in days that code is good for. That is the best I can explain it. No wires, no cellular, no wifi, no Bluetooth. It just works, and has been on the market for at least 4 years. Did one with a gas station and a close wash with two automatics and it works fine.

Mac, so how do I, the CarWash owner, get the money, if they pay at the pump? I have dial up, so this is intriguing to me.

What about this idea: C-Store offers gas @ a .10/gal discount, & I pay the .10/gal that he looses. I get 100% of the carwash sales. he sells more gas + increases foot traffic 3 fold = more in-store sales for him.

Thoughts?

I (express friction tunnel) am next door to a national chain, how do you go about getting the ball rolling with this, what equipment would be required? I use Hamilton HTKs with their hosted solutions package.
