I have operated an Odyssey for two years now and would like to buy another one. I have not owned any other brand for comparison, but have talked to owners of others and have not regreted my choice. I have a touch free next to the Odyssey and most of my customers prefer the soft cloth becouse they say it cleans better. I like it because the cost per car is about half of that of the touch free. As far as D&S and their service goes, I can't say enough good things about the company. I have been to the factory and met the new managment and they are just a great bunch of people. Always willing to help and go the extra mile.

If you would like additional information of my personal experiance, fell free to pm me.

Hi Mike,

I?m looking to purchase an Odyssey and a QuickSilver (touch-free) side-by-side. We have no soft-touch washes in our area, mainly just touch-free IBAs. I?m tempted to instead purchase two Odysseys side-by-side. Do you every wish you would have went with two soft-touch IBAs instead of one of each?

Thanks,
Andy

Kevin,
We installed our first Trio last year at a 3 bay unattended self serve site. So far it has been running well with few problems. Although the Trio is new here in the states, the European version has been around for a few years. Your area is a Ryko direct area so you should have no problem with service (I have known the service manager for a long time).

Andy,

I am very happy to have soft cloth and touchless side by side. If I had to choose to add a third unit, it would be an Odyssey. I have recently been to a training school held by D&S and have been amazed at the technology built into these machines. If you put in an Odyssey with no other compition in the area, you will have the leg up on the others. The soft cloth cleans very well and will sometimes clean a vehicle when the touch free will not. One very good advantage I can see with having both Odyssey and Quick Silver together is that much of the systems and technology are the same. Parts inventory and support would go hand in hand. If the Quick Silver was available when I was buying, I would have bought the pair.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Why privately? That defeats the entire purpose of this open forum.

I was curious about that as well. Is there something secret about D&S that we should all not know about. If there is, I want to know it. If there is not, then don't make it sound like there is.

The comments are fair enough. I don't think I'm in a good position to go public. As many of you know, your distributor can really hurt your business if you go against them. I feel like we're stuck right now. Probably, I should not have posted a response. Anyone going into this business, should really really do their homework.

don't own one, but i heard broken shafts, belts, and lots of maintenance. your distributor should be able to hook you up with owners throughout the u.s. who have owned the odyssey more than a year, if not, i would seriously question the machine. luck to you.

I've had an Odyssey for more than a year and have done nothing more than preventive maintenance. The next unit will for sure be from D&S, probably the Quicksilver. D&S is a great company to work with.

I've had my Odyssey for over two years now and my down time has been minimal. Being one of the early units they built, I had a few bugs to work out, but since then it washes cars everyday like a champ. For example, I had a belt break and one shaft break and D&S has addressed each issue with new design feature and replaced my parts at no charge. Over the past two years, my unit has maybe been out of service 4 days total. I will say, there is a learning curve involved with owning an operating the Odyssey. The unit has so many capabilities, that learing all of them has been a challange for me. The past Odyssey school I just attended was very helpful. I am now writing my own recipes and discovering ways to create cleaner cars faster. I do not have any affiliation with D&S other than I own equipment from them. As soon as the economy picks up, I will be looking to purchase additional equipment and there is no reason for me to look any further than D&S and most likely another Odyssey or Quick Silver.

Well, I finally am getting the Odyssey installed in December! Thanks for the replies. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time. It's a big investment and I hope it pays off. Anyone have any additional advice for me regarding this unit? Thanks. -Kevin

Could be I guess but that just hasn't been my D&S experience at all. I've had my first 5000 for 4 years and it has been great. I just bought another wash with a 5000, and plan to build a new stand alone with a Q and Odyssey as soon as I can pull it off and/or when we see where this economy is going.

It's true that a dist can make things a lot easier or a lot worse.

I recently had an odyssey installed to replace a D&S 5000 along with a Quicksilver to have both a touchless and a touchfree. Did you have any trouble getting the side brush pressures adjusted properly? Mine do great in reverse mode, but in the forward mode it seems they take on a mind of there own. My distributor is not much help on the issue, being that its the first one they have installed and are learning as they go also. Any pointers or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Todd,

I will try to help you. It did take me awhile to get my Odyssey dialed in like I wanted it. Only after I attended the Odyssey school did I have the understanding of the machine it takes to get everything adjusted like I wanted. You need to understand that the direction of the brush spin creates a force that will want to force the brush out or hold it in. So, depending on whether the brush is in forward or reverse mode, you will need to adjust the pressure for each direction. For example, (and I hope I get this right) in the forward mode the front brushes will want to pull out into the car on their own so you will need very little air pressure for those brushes. But this same forward mode will put your back brushes in a spin direction that will make them want to stay away from the car, so you will need a high pressure setting. In the reverse mode, everything is just the oposite. So to summerize...you have two pressure settings for each side brush, one for reverse and one forward mode. The best way to get them how you want them is to go out in the bay with your computer and exercise the inputs as you adjust each valve for each brush arm in each mode. I personally have very little air pressure (4-8 psi) on the arm when they naturally pull them- selves into the car. Its been awhile since I have had to mess with this, so I can't off hand remember all my settings. Just remember that it is the forward brush which ever direction it is going that will need little help (low air pressure) coming into the car and the trailing bush that will need the help (i.e. higher air pressure). Once you get them set, they pretty much stay that way. However, it is a good idea to check them once a month.

If you get a chance to go the the Odyssey school in St. Louis, I highly recommend it. Let me know if you need further explanation.

Mike
