I currently have a ics auto sentry. I sold my wash this week and when the new owner went to change over the credit card processing he was told that the company no longer supports the software so it will be $17000 to upgrade to the new pin and chip. I was a bit shocked and I'm not sure what to do about it with the new owner. I bought it new 8 years ago and sold it thinking everything was good and working. What other options are there for pay stations that people are using I'm thinking that something new might be that same or a cheaper option. It feels like a good old kick in the nuts by ics. Thanks

I wonder if he could have your bank account numbers transferred. Probably not, but worth a try.

“It feels like a good old kick in the nuts by ics.”

I’d say ICS is not doing the kicking.

Normal expectancy for short-life property such as software is 3-years. Information systems such as PC’s and pay station are 5 to 7 years and long-life property is between 10 and 20 years.

Whereas there is equipment such as motor control center that may never get replaced.

Consider the typical in-bay at gas site wears out at average rate of $2.00 a car or $29,000 annually.

$17,000 / 7 years = $2,429

Typical capital cost for in-bay at gas site is $84,000.

$2,429 / $84,000 = 3%

So, finding something cheaper doesn’t pay much because expectancy is short.

Another consideration is the rate of obsolescence isn’t linear like in my analysis.

When new, repairs and maintenance will be lowest and then cost increases every year thereafter. Also, as volume goes up (i.e. launch to maturity) things wear out faster.

So, if money isn’t set aside, the accumulated cost to keep pace with the industry and new technology may be daunting (i.e. shocking).

Maybe you could add a different reader like Nayax.com ,etc . You might not get all the features but can still accept credit cards.
