My RNS changer with a XE validator will take the bill won't stack it with the other bills then go out of service, it started doing this when it got cold out. how do I fix this last time I sent my validator in to Iowa Changers I could of bought a new one after I saw the bill.

The cheapest fix is to put a light bulb in the changer to keep it warm. When the motor gets old it has trouble running in reverse (And cold makes it worse), so if it pulls in a bill it can't accept and it can't reverse back to the customer it ends up pulsing it forward into the stacker to clear the bill path.

I'd chunk the XE and replace it with a Mars.

Are the bills getting stuck on top of the pusher plate in the stacker? What is the error code on the controller when it goes out of service? Check the heating pad on the cradle that the validator sits in, it should be warm to the touch when it’s cold outside. What is happening and this is a fairly common problem with the XE validator if your using the flat style belts. When it gets cold the belts will take a set and they don’t turn very well, warm the validator up and it’ll work fine. If the validator chatters when it tries to accept a bill it’s pretty much the same problem. You can always remove the stacker and put a box under the validator to catch the bills, kind of a pain in the a$$ but it works. To do that remove the stacker and plug in the plug with the Purple wire that is cable tied about 6 inches from the end of the harness that plugs into the stacker. If you don’t take Token notes I’d go with a Mars validator.

The error code on controller is 6 flashes, pause, 5 flashes and half 1 and decimal are on the validator, the warming pad is working, I'm going to try the bulb idea next what am I looking at for a Mars conversion?

A 6 – 5 controller error is a validator shut down error. There’s something wrong with the validator. More than likely the rear gate inside the validator isn’t dropping fast enough when a bill is accepted. We’ve been putting a spring on the rear gate to help drop, this eliminates that error. Are bills balling up in back of the validator? If they are I would take the stacker off and run it without the stacker. If bills get balled up in back of the validator you can also get the validator shutdown error.

The kit is $606.99 from Kleen-Rite, although it can be found a little cheaper. It comes with a plate for mounting the validator, a new bezel for the outside, a chip for the controller, and the validator/stacker unit with an adaptor harness. It's pretty easy to install.

We bought the individual parts to install/convert over to Mars and got a good price on a couple of recon validators, I think we paid around $225 - $250 to change over. We had a few install problems that were quickly resolved with a phone call. Overall we’ve been very pleased with the conversion.

Ooops!

PM Randy. We had a problem with our Hamilton changer rejecting most bills, growling and so forth. Randy had suggested we oil it to get by and that helped with the growling, but we knew the validator was on its last leg. He sold us a reconditioned Mars validator for reasonable $ and it's been fantastic.

Edit - I just saw the date on the post after hitting "reply". Sorry for digging up an old thread!
