About done with IDX coin mechs and tokens

I started another thread about IDX but thought I'd simply ask...

I'm about done with IDX, their cost of tokens and loooong lag time to get things repaired. Thinking of going with VanBrook for secure tokens and leaning toward Microcoin QL for the coin mechs. Opinions? Is there something better?

I've had IDX and slugbuster. I don't use tokens, so can't speak to that. But I've switched to all slugbuster. Great phone tech support, fast and reasonable price on repairs. My slugbuster3's allow for three coin types.

I'm not a fan of Slugbusters for several reasons, one of which is that they pop open easily when someone bangs on the meter door, then it jams or customers lose their money.

My experience with the Microcoin QL is limited, but from what I have seen they're tough and reliable.

Thanks for the input. I'm just tired of IDX and their repair lag times. Right now I've got 6 X10 mechs at their company waiting for repairs and they're telling me March sometime. Plus their mechs are so complex and "rough" designed that any little thing makes them not work. And have you ever gone to their website and tried to read their tech support? Just tell me what's wrong with my mech? Can I fix it in field? And if I need to send it in get it back to me sooner than 4-5 months. And last year I had to throw away 4 mechs that IDX could no longer repair- $800.

I would sure appreciate more opinions on the Microcoin QL from those that are using them, durability, repairs, complexity, tokens, dollar coins, etc.

If you use the small screw that comes with the Slugbuster coin acceptor to secure the door it won’t pop open when someone bangs on the door. Problem solved

We gave up on the IDX coin acceptors years ago when we had a bunch that they said they would take 5 to 6 weeks to get repaired, this is totally unacceptable. I think they must only be repairing coin acceptors in their spare time. We ended up replacing all of them with Slugbuster coin acceptors.
We tried the Micro coin QL coin acceptors. They were OK, we had trouble with them accepting tokens when it was cold. There made in Australia and the only place to get them repaired is Hi Performance wash systems in Denver at $100 plus parts. I think they are pretty much a throw away item when they fail.

I saved over 10 IDXs that I replaced with MicroCoinQLs that were in my car wash bays. They seem to be working great on my IDX-Dixmor combination upgrade on my vacs & for our 2 stall dog wash part of our business. I also am using the IDX core inserts on my two bar-countertop MegaTouch video games for the laundromat part of our business because their OEM coin mech did not accept dollar coins.

The 100% troublefee characteristic of the IDXs on my Vacs, dog wash, & MegaTouchs lead me to believe that they need to solve a vulnerability to car wash bays' added humidity & moisture.

IMHO, if Canada had 10x the population of USA instead of the other way around with Canada's $5 coin coming this brand new 2017 year, the coin mech situation would be much brighter because there would have been more money invested by various manufacturers to improve their coin mechs. Water under the bridge ..... whoa horsey ... maybe there is hope ... since we have new leadership in Washington, DC maybe it is not too late for that "stinkin travesty" to be corrected!!!

I have IDX MA-800 (8 working and 4 needing repair) and IDX X-10 for Hamilton Goldline (2 working and one needing repair). I also have Microcoin QLs (6 and all are working). I've had my wash for three years and I inherited eight MA-800, two X-10 and six Microcoin QL. So, in three years I've purchased four new MA-800s and one new X-10. Two of the four MA-800s that I purchased had issues about a year after I purchased them. One I replaced and the other I switched to my least used vacuum until I buy a replacement. I don't think I have a choice when it comes to the X-10, but I'm not going to purchase any more of the MA-800. I've had some issues with the Microcoin QL jamming, but only when someone puts pennies, nickels, dimes....or anything that shouldn't be inserted into the slot. I've also had to relearn the coins on a couple of the microcoin QL mechs. Pretty easy process and there are a couple of good youtube videos to refresh my memory of the process. Will probably go with Microcoin QL from now on.

Should have mentioned that I accept quarters, tokens and dollar coins with the Microcoin and I think they are at least six and possibly ten years old.

I sure appreciate the input from all of you on X10 and Mircrocoins. We just had a very cold weekend and very busy days. I added three more X10's to my work bench pile that no longer work. I'm done with IDX and have ordered two Microcoins to start playing with and adding to the bays, vacs and vending as they fail. Thanks again.

Update about IDX and their X10's: Just received word that the three X10's that we sent back for repair can't be repaired because of "economic not advantageous to repair". Other words, they don't have the parts to repair them. So there goes $600 in coin mechs. We're all done with IDX.

I'm with you. Been struggling with an MA-800 that I bought less than two years ago. Ordered two microcoin mechs earlier this week.
