This I think has been alot of the center of my problem in regard to hose failure. J hooks are interesting creatures - logic will state that installing them - the bottom of the J should act as the hook - for the hose - This is not the case. The J should be installed the reverse of what your would think - almost open allowing the hose to break free as needed.

Users often tend to get there mirrors caught on this - just happened to me - pulled the J hook almost completely out of the wall - bent is straight down and of course ruined a brand new HP hose - where the J was connected as well as at the boom connection.

Thinking it would be great if there were better hose wall connection mounts that were easier for users to understand and install - something that was soft and could break away or release when users catch them on there mirrors.. Any one have any suggestions or perhaps a new product idea? J hooks for me have been a pain in the A$$

IMO hooks to hold the hose against the wall are unnecessary. The boom should swing freely and the spindle should be angled so the boom wants to rest pointing toward the rear of the wall if the wand holder is mounted at the front of the bay, and the holder should point toward the rear so if someone does hook the hose the gun just slides out without breaking anything. If all this is followed, you should have almost no issues.

MEP - this is certainly an issue.. Can I ask what kind of booms you recommend? I currently have older Zeirden booms installed - and at times it is a quagmier that customers leave the bays in relative to hose entanglement.. I am open to suggestions to better serve the customer.. Is there a produt out there that is self greasing.. no O rings? This is typically a hassle every year.. bad visualy for the customer and alot of maintenance - I heard Mosmatic might make such a boom?

I must be doing something wrong. I very seldom have to do anything to my old Zierdan booms. The "O" rings on the newer style elbow seal cartridge last years, I use a high quality silicone grease when I install a "O" ring on the elbow seal cartridge. The few remaining swivel cartridges are all well over 5 years old. If you install the boom correctly they'll go back to wherever you have the home position. I use 1" electrical conduit for the upper boom, put a little bend at the end and it'll last for years or until someone hangs on it and bends it down. I'd never use a "J" hook. When the hose gets hung up on a mirror or whatever something is going to break.

Finding that out clearly in regard to breakage.. !! I find J hooks suck! - Is there an alternative type of hook/ wall attachment out there that will let the operator / user hang the hose neatly and break away if caught on a mirror etc? Thinking like a foam padded aparatus that would allow the hose to be wall hung but not too tightly and of course break free when need be. View attachment 1013 View attachment 1014

Mosmatic booms are probably the smoothest turning booms, but they're very expensive. Dultmeier sells Dralco booms that are maintenance-free except for the swivel, which is cheap and easy to replace. The Kleen-Rite booms are a very similar design but they're lighter material and get damaged easily if they're hit or the hose is hooked on a bumper.

What do you think is your biggest cause of problem? Customers leaving the hoses tangled, or do the hoses not swing out of the way on their own?
