What would you do if your distributor sent a family member/employee to your wash and claimed he was interested in purchasing it. He has been there many times. He told a great story about having to get permission from his granddad(distributor) to do the deal. He is your distributor, he already has been to your wash to train his employees on the equipment because it is very close to his office. . You are his customer for years. You foolishly trust him and give him intimate financial information about your operation. He buys a lot around the corner and is building a Car wash right on top of you. He knows neither will prosper.
Anybody here ever had this happen to them? I know there is a lot of experience on this board, I have been reading post here for many years. What would you do?

Not really much you can do except for live and learn. Best case try to talk him out of it if you really think neither will prosper.

You could, if it is needed, upgrade everything possible at your wash to make it crystal clear to the other person that he would be competing with essentially another new wash with an already established customer base. I would let him know this will happen. You could also, and maybe you already have, give him a walk away price for your wash. Good luck.

Yes, reminds me of the old Barry Boyd days. He pulled lots of stunts like that. For instance he built many washes in the area, and guess what? All were keyed alike. Coincidence? I would post this distributor's name and location so that this doesn't happen to others. And I do hope you are looking for a new distributor.
