So here’s a thought......

If you’ve got the time to ask (especially technical) advise.....how about returning to the post and letting all know what the eventual fix was!!!!

Thanks

That’s kind of always bother me also. I take my time to answer someone questions and they don’t have the common courtesy to come back and say thanks or that didn’t or nothing.

Same here....That's why I don't offer up much help any more...It doesn't seem as appreciated like it used to be. Some of the new operator/owners post once with their problems and they get multiple possible resolutions even when we don't know their equipment....And that's the last you hear from them...

There used to be really good discussions on here about new and innovative ideas....Not so much any more....

Not disagreeing at all...But a little appreciation goes a long way! Especially when you get free advice and it doesn't cost you a Dime! Try calling a plumber or electrician asking for advice and they'll tell you how much a service call costs...

You're right IB, getting crotchety in my old age! I've finally caught up with the rest of you Old Farts on here! :p

Factors to consider are generational change, individual personality, and nature of the beast.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve dealt with nine times as many tire kickers and time wasters as I have worked with actual clients. That’s a lot of B.S. In fact, I guess one could say I’m also an expert in identifying B.S. artists.

For example, is anyone surprised here that from time to time some folks come on this site and simply pretend. In other words, they don’t actually own a carwash or ever follow through with buying or building one.

The investor base has also changed considerably. There is less and less mom and pop coming in and more folks that are strictly business. For example, some of these folks might believe friend is for Facebook.

Also consider that some folks may not like what they hear or see. As in when the answer is not the one they expected or wanted to hear. In other words, some people don’t take good advice for a number of psychological reasons.

The younger generation also tends to be more rude and lacking good manners than older generation.

Lastly, no one asked anyone to come and participate at this venue. For example, I come here, give advice, and don’t “expect” anything.

The only thing I expect is not to be told I don’t know what I’m talking about. If I didn’t know what I was talking about, I wouldn’t say anything. What’s the point?

Yeah Robert....I don’t “expect” anything.....but it’s simple courtesy, I think, to follow up on your own post. It’s nice to have the full story on what the actual solution to a question is. Did you get the issue fixed?, did you decide to remodel or build?, Did the advice of a (paid or unpaid) consultant help?, ....etc

You did pretty good till the last part Robert....I've read your posts for going on 8 years now and have never responded that I can remember even though I disagree with your posts 99.9% of the time...So come on Robert, is the part about not expecting anything really true???? You have nothing invested in this site, you hardly ever offer any solutions to mechanical problems, and you don't even own a CW....So what is it, what keeps you coming back here? Is it for that mere chance that someone will see that you are a consultant and you might make some $$$ off it...I think your stats prove what we are talking about, you have never thanked anyone for anything, not even the first time...And for the last sentence, to me that's just pure arrogance....As usual, I think you are missing the whole point of this conversation....

2Biz, I couldn't have said it any better myself. I don't bother to read his posts anymore, I consider them to be mindless dribble.

I would like to have such responses also. However, it’s a sign of the times which in some cases is exacerbated by scale.

For example, I’m a one person shop. So, I can respond to e-mail and phone calls in fairly short order.

Large scale suppliers may have many different channels that introduce friction and slows down process (i.e. getting phone call transferred, put on hold).

Then there are the people who ask for help, information or a quote and then not respond at all. They won’t even call back to say go screw yourself. Nothing, nada

I’m pragmatic about it.

When I was a boy, I was taught to open the door for women and senior citizens.

As young adult, I remember getting insulted when I opened the door for this woman and she didn’t say thank you before or after passing through.

I muttered something unappreciative under my breath and she snapped back by saying I don’t own you a thank you nor did I asked for it either.

And she was right.

For example, people may have the perspective that everyday acts, such as holding doors open for other people, reflect internal simulation of acts of social cooperation.

Whereas another perspective on etiquette (physically expressed) is not a symbol for respect but rather a means of reducing the physical effort of the group.

For example, researchers find that the closer the follower or followers are to the door, the more likely people are to hold the door open.

“…..you have never thanked anyone for anything, not even the first time.”

Absolutely and this proves a point.

Steve Okun used to frequent this site and the same group of people called him arrogant, obnoxious, Mr. Know-it-all, and worse. Steve told me this all ran off his back because he was confident, not stuck up.

Quite frankly, I don’t care if you disagree with 100 percent of what I say. I hope you do ignore me so I don’t have to listen to the whining, crying, and name calling.

Some of you guys are starting to sound like Democrats who can’t get over losing the presidential election.
